Should our politicians do a poll of wealthy business owners to find out if proposed legislation is OK?

Maybe Congress should get the input of chemical companies when considering legislation to prohibit the dumping of toxic chemicals into streams. Your thoughts?|||LOL, Ok that is like asking a fat person if they want a piece of cake. the most interesting thing i have heard all day concerning this matter was a statistic on the percentage of taxes paid by these corporations. they pay a rate of about 2%. and they can deduct the cost of operations overseas, but can't be taxed on profits made overseas.|||No. Each individual and corporation should pay for the benefits they receive from this great nation. If you want me to pay for your benefits, please leave. Somalia will be happy to have you.|||No need. That's what lobbyists are for.|||Legislators do not need a poll. They are constantly lobbied by all sorts of groups. The chemical industry makes sure it's wishes are heard in the halls of Congress.|||Well, the people of congress do aim to please their constituents.

I say, hell yeah they should! Self-interest is #1! And the more log rolling the better!|||Perhaps the government should do a poll of middle class American workers who will lose their 6 figures jobs as the result of crack down of the Obama administration on private businesses.|||No. Those companies have lobbyists and make sure their opinions are known. Republicans like to have them WRITE legislation.|||Your stupid sarcasm is duly noted, but putting that aside the actual answer to your question is yes, but it should be phrased somewhat differently: "After we pass this legislation that significantly raises your costs in exchange for no or questionable benefits, how many expansion plans will you call off, layoffs will you announce, and/or plant closings will you announce?" Of course the question should be tailored to the specific industry at which it is being targeted, but I'm sure(?) you get the point.

In any event, it sure as hell doesn't make sense to ask a fellow politician, does it?|||They already do. There are thousands of people working in Washington whose job it is to influence politicians.|||Replace the words "polls" and "input" with "campaign contributions", and we're already there.|||I thought they did already? That's why they invite the lobbyists over for dinner.|||They should, but never will. They should poll the entire population of this country or put ALL of their legislation on referendum and get our input, but they do not. It has gotten to the point that the majority is only interested in their own personal liberal agenda. Every tine they win an election the warp the people's mandate and misinterpret it as them being given carte blanche to tax, spend, and socialize this country without ever being held accountable.
