Do you think congress would pass legislation that would limit terms?

Many people have suggested putting term limits for members of congress. Some have said it will never happen. Others have said it should go on ballet. What is your view? Do you think congress would ever pass legislation that would set term limits for senate and house or representatives?

If yes, why? If not why?

Thank you for your time and answers.|||Term Limits are unquestionably the single greatest change we need to make to our "elected" leaders.

It has been for decades now, the simple equation of "money" and "influence" that predetermines in 95% of positions, who get's in. The longer they stay in, the more influenced they are by the "privileges, money, benefits and power" they possess.

Some of these "dinosaurs" are so old and so set in their ways, it doesn't matter what their constituents want. This country needs "fresh, imaginative" minds that have a vision for the country, NOT what they want or desire.

Will it ever happen ? Probably not in our lifetime. With yearly raises ( already obscene salaries ), percs and benefits that make them a "special" class of citizens, they all would fight any such move.|||Needs a two-thirds majority for a Constitutional amendment, which seems unlikely.

Not sure how it would help. As it is the incentive for any elected official is extremely short-sighted. Their incentives mean that self-interested elected officials only look as far as the next election when voting (2 years max for House, 6 for Senate).

If anything, term limits would encourage officials to be even more short-sighted, giving even more favoritism to businesses that might hire them as lobbyists or as some other part of the company after the term-limit forces them out.|||Someone will propose it for the PR

then everyone will vote it down.

Each side will blame the other and then at the end of the day they will all go to the bar and laugh about how stupid we are to think they would ever do such a thing. Then they will campaign on the issue and win again. And again. And again.|||I think it would be a wonderful idea to put term limits in and rid ourselves of the political class. but that would require a constitutional amendment and those folks are never going to vote themselves out of the job.|||No, and I don't think that they should. It is my right as an American to send who I want to send to Congress to represent me. Aside from the few restrictions in the Constitution, that right should remain as free as it always were.|||We already have term limits, they are called elections. If people don't like the job performance they have the opportunity to vote them out.|||they should but will never limit their ability to earn more money %26amp; power|||No, would you vote yourself out of your job?
